Over the last 76 years, MAF has been able to reach isolated communities for the sake of sharing the Gospel.
“The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.”
Luke 10:2
This Easter, as we remember our Saviour, we would like to share with you how technology enables communities in South Sudan to hear about Jesus.
Recently pilot Daniel Gill flew nearly 900 kg of radios to Tonj and Mvolo for Every Village, a long-standing partner of MAF. The boxes contained 5 000 high-quality, blue solar-powered radio receivers that operate for years in remote areas without the need for batteries.
“The radios were distributed mostly to members of the community who do not have any radios that they can listen to our broadcasts on,” explains Joseph Njuguna, who works with Every Village based in Aweil.
Tuning in, Joseph explains, listeners can enjoy a range of programmes including Bible stories, expositional Bible teaching as well as scripture read in the mother tongue of the area, which could be Dinka, Dinka Malual, Luo or Jurmodo or local Arabic.
A missionary himself, Joseph is passionate about sharing the Gospel over the airwaves with people in some of the remotest and most inaccessible communities in South Sudan. It is a ministry that MAF has supported for many years with flights.
On one of these flights, we encountered one listener, Monica, who was so desperate for the Word, that she sold her last bag of peanuts to buy a radio from another person in her village.
Sadly, her possessions, along with her radio, were stolen that same night. Undeterred, Monica came back to purchase another one with hard-earned money – praying that her precious treasure would remain hers.
“To deliver radios and hear that there is a hunger for even more, is exciting!” Daniel smiles. “The fact that so many people can hear the gospel on an Every Village radio is absolutely awesome!”
“How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?”
Romans 10:14
As we know, faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. These little radios have become the workers in the field that are so desperately needed.
This is an opportunity for you!
Would you please consider giving a special gift this season? Through your support we can continue to reach people like Monica.
Your gift of R100, R300, R600 or R1000 would go a long way in reaching isolated people with the Gospel this Easter, as we continue in our calling to take Jesus into every village.
