Partner with MAF today and fly help, hope and healing to some of the most remote communities on earth.
Because mosquitoes aren’t the only ones who fly.
More than 600,000 people die from malaria ever year.
Over 75% of these are children under five.
Children from the poorest households are 50% less likely to receive care, because access is one of the biggest barriers to survival.
MAF is joining the fight against malaria in more than 25 low-income countries across the world.
Flying cargo including medication, mosquito nets, healthcare providers, medical researchers, and rapid-test malaria kits, MAF is providing vital access to lifesaving care for communities living beyond the reach of mainstream treatment.
Partner with MAF today and help combat malaria in the most isolated places on earth.
Because mosquitoes aren’t the only ones who fly.
Every single MAF-malaria flight will help fight the spread of the disease and give more patients a chance to make a full recovery.
Here are a handful of inspiring stories from the communities we serve, which demonstrate both the devastating harm malaria can cause, and the human resilliance which can fight against it.
Malaria Stories
The Fight Against Malaria: Scovia’s Story, Uganda
Scovia received her first malaria diagnosis as a one-year-old baby. She was born healthy, the youngest of three siblings. Scovia’s mother Jane Feku explains her extraordinary and life-changing symptoms, and how the disease has impacted their family.
The Fight Against Malaria: Claudine’s Story, DRC
In 2017 Claudine gave birth naturally to conjoined twins Anick and Destin in a village so remote, most Congolese couldn’t plot it on a map. Given a five percent chance of survival, a MAF medevac flew them to the capital for separation surgery. It was the first successful operation of its kind ever recorded.
The Fight Against Malaria: 48 000 Mosquito Nets to Lapalama
According to Rotarians Against Malaria (RAM), 70% of deaths in PNG are caused by malaria. MAF flew to Lapalama twice in February 2023 to deliver 41 bales of mosquito nets to be distributed among the rural community as part of an ongoing partnership with RAM.
The Fight Against Malaria: Hannah’s Story, UK
Hannah contracted malaria in April 2019 while serving with MAF in Liberia. Despite taking all the advised antimalarial medication, she suffered an acute form of the disease. Four years on, Hannah still experiences side-effects, and her life has never been the same.
