Holding Hope in Their Hands
There is little access to Vernacular Bibles in the rural areas of South Africa
We often take for granted how easily we can access God’s Word. For many of us, a Bible is only several minutes away – available in multiple translations at a nearby bookshop or just a click online.
Now imagine a gogo living in a remote rural village. She has spent a lifetime walking in faith, but age has made travel difficult. The nearest town is hours away, and she no longer has the means to make the journey. She is longing for a Bible in her own mother tongue, so that she can once again read and reflect on God’s Word for herself.
For many elderly people living in SA’s rural communities, this simple gift remains out of reach.
Roads don’t reach many of these villages.
Planes do.
While Bible organisations faithfully translate and provide God’s Word, MAF carries it the hardest mile – flying across mountains, floodplains and remote landscapes to communities no delivery truck is going to reach.
This time, we have an opportunity to serve closer to home. Through our monthly Flying for Life outreach flights, you can help bring not only the practical expression of God’s love through life-changing medical care, but also the lasting hope and encouragement found in His Word.
Together, we can place a Bible into the hands of someone who has been waiting and praying for one.
Pictured at the top is Myodzanga, now 73 years old. She lost her sight 12 years ago.
She has four children, all married. When we asked what she misses most, she responded, ‘working in my garden and reading my bible.’
When Myodzanga regains her sight, she wants to start working and attending to her home.
