Emily, Grant and Jane Strugnell serve with MAF in Lesotho

Our Story

They are a family of three, living and serving in the small country of Lesotho, in Southern Africa.

Grant is South African, and trained and worked as a pilot since 2004, as well as being involved in the work at Pulane Children's Centre. Emily is American, and worked in campus ministry with Campus Crusade for Christ between 2005 until 2011. During that time she worked in Venezuela, Utah, and Texas. Jane was born in 2015, and spent her first year in South Africa before they all moved to Lesotho to run Pulane Children's Centre.

Grant will serve as an MAF Pilot, helping support rural clinics and missionaries who live in the mountains, while Emily will continue managing PCC.

They are currently support-raising. To find out more, please see their blog! www.strugnellcrew.com

The Strugnell's Newsletters

When I was a young pilot, just 20 years old, I was driving around the back streets of Lanseria Airport in Johannesburg, trying to get a sense of what companies were out there and where I could drop off my resumé. That’s when I first learned about MAF. When I was a young pilot, just 20 years old, I was driving around the back streets of Lanseria Airport in Johannesburg, trying to get a sense of what companies were out there and where I could drop off my resumé. That’s when I first learned about MAF. Being young and full of wide-eyed optimism, I applied to MAF. Over the next few months I went through all the stages of application and testing, not quite thinking what I would do if MAF actually accepted me as a pilot. As it turned out, they did. When that day arrived, the CEO of MAF said to me ‘Ok, we want you in MAF, but are you sure you’re up for this?’ This was probably the first time that question was real to me. I was 20 years old. Was I up for this? This, at the time, would have been Papua New Guinea, a world away from everyone and everything I knew. Through some advice from people who care for me, and many days spent pondering what to do, the decision at that time of my life had to be No. Raad more on the Strugnell's Blog

Country of Service

Lesotho

The Kingdom of Lesotho is a small, mountainous country located entirely within South Africa. Lesotho is the only country in the world that lies entirely above 3,281 feet in elevation. While beautiful, this small African nation is crippled by poverty, famine, and HIV/AIDS.MAF is working to bring the good news of Jesus Christ as well as access to food, medicines, and other services to the people of this small nation. Since 1980, MAF has provided safe, efficient air transportation for the Lesotho Flying Doctor Service (LFDS) and other agencies operating in Lesotho. In addition, MAF provides weekly flights to six health clinics operated by Partners In Health (PIH). Nearly 300,000 people depend solely on LFDS and PIH for medical care.
