Flying with MAF: How it works

Beyond providing transportation, our aim is to partner with you and to enhance the success of your mission. So when you request a quote, please help us to understand the purpose of your trip with us so that we can work with you to achieve your goals in the best possible manner. We will send you a quote. Please discuss any concerns you may have or any other matter, with us.

Once you decide to fly with us, please confirm your booking as soon as possible by tel. 011 659 2880 or at bookings@mafsa.co.za. This will secure the aircraft for you and will enable us to use any weight allowance that you don't require, for other clients. Since we subsidise the cost of every flight, such sharing helps us to be better stewards of the Lord's money.

All our pilots and senior staff are missionaries who raise their own financial support. Our prices include no profit margin. In fact, we raise funds independently in order to subsidise the cost to you, and to pay for office administration costs.

Flight Pricing    top

This page is intended as a guide only. Actual prices depend on many factors. Only our official quote is a valid for flights.

The actual maximum weight of an aircraft is made up of both fuel and payload (passengers and cargo). The more payload we take, the less fuel we can carry, and the more frequently we have to stop for fuel. We do also carry reserve fuel for 1½ hours flying. These factors determine the routing and the landings required. Each landing incurs extra costs as we have to pay the airport for the use of their facilities (see “flight fees” below)

Charter Rates

We charge for the kilometres involved in the routing of your flight. Because we raise funds independently our fares Christian workers, churches and missions are about 40% of what you would pay for an equivalent commercial charter. Rates for other operations are also very competitive. Please give us an opportunity to quote for your specific needs.

"Flight Fees"

In addition to the basic charter costs, our quotation will include the following costs which are dependent on countries and airports visited during your trip.

  •  Landing fees for each landing
  •  Passenger taxes for each airport used
  •  Navigation, overflying and air traffic control fees
  •  Parking fees for overnight stops
  •  A fuel surcharge in countries where fuel prices are higher than South Africa

Church outreaches
If your church is planning an outreach, here are some pointers to help you succeed:

Providing for Missionaries
Missionaries are the major focus of our work. Our aim is to serve you in whatever way we are gifted.

We can frequently fit your goods or passengers onto flights that are already going to be in your area, particularly when returning to South Africa.

We can also often procure your goods in South Africa, clear them through customs and fly them to where you are. Delivery will usually be dependent on flights being booked to your area by others, so that your costs can be kept to a minimum.

Please  contact us if you have such a need, even if you can't really see how we can help

Providing for NGO's and Missionary organisations
We are eager to go into partnership with you to serve your missionaries or other field workers. If your ministry requires travel, we are willing to set up joint initiatives to reduce the cost and inconvenience of your current travel arrangements. We need you to talk to us about your ministry and your requirements, so that we can look for solutions together.
