Pilot training
Thank you for your interest in completing a type training with Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF). Below you will find a brief introduction to MAF, details of the aircraft we fly and the training we provide.
MissionAviation Fellowship
MAF is a Christian non-profit aviation organisation that works in over 30 countries around the world. Our purpose is to share God’s love through aviation and technology with a vision that isolated people are physically and spiritually transformed in Christ’s name. In South Africa MAF operates as Mission Aviation Services with a Pt 135 AOC and a Pt 141 ATO (CAA ATO 0089). We operate from our own purpose built hangar on the South Side of Lanseria International Airport (next to NAC) where we run all the training courses and hangar our aircraft.
Aircraft
In South Africa MAF operates 2 aircraft: U206 ZS-ANA and C208B ZS-EST. Both of these aircraft are available for training.
Training
All the training courses that MAF provides are bespoke and individually tailored to the needs of the pilot under training. We recommend that the training be completed in 1 block for the sake of continuity, but understand that other factors may prevent this. The course details below are provided for guidance; the exact number of flight hours and ground school sessions provided will depend on the trainee’s previous flight experience and rate of learning. The rates charged may also change and trainees should contact MAF for the latest hourly rate. Our Flight Instructors are experienced MAF pilots with many years flying experience and extensive C208 and C206 flying in many different operational environments.
C206– MAF is offering a type conversion for the C206. The course will include technical ground school and flight sessions. The course should take between 4 - 5 hours and will include a few ground sessions. The ground training is charged at R250 per session (a morning or afternoon of classroom training constitutes a session) and R2496 + VAT per hour in the aircraft.
C208– The conversion course for the C208 takes a week and includes 5 ground school sessions and 4 – 5 hours of flight time. One of the sessions will be completed in a certified C208 Flight Simulator. The ground school rate of R250 per session is the same as the C206 and aircraft time is charged at R6100.00 +VAT per hour.
