Ian and Solomon taught the members of the community how to farm according to Biblical principles and they assisted the community in planting two vegetable gardens.
One garden was planted opposite the Gondeni crèche in a community member’s garden, the entire community will maintain it and have access to the the crops it produces. Once this vegetable garden starts producing crops and the community are confident in their farming efforts the project will be expanded into other people's gardens. Once system is perfected they will receive land from the chief to plant a bigger garden.
The other vegetable garden was planted at the Makhuya clinic where FGW taught the chronic patients how to farm. This vegetable garden will be maintained by these chronic patients and they will have access to the crops it produces. Many of these chronic patients have diabetes, high blood pressure and other diseases and the food they purchase does not have enough nutrients to help maintain their condition. The purpose of the vegetable garden at the clinic is to help the patients get sufficient nutrients and fast track their way to a healthier life.
