In March our Flying for Life team, together with representatives from JAM, embarked on a 3-day assessment where we measured and weighed 345 children in 11 different day-care centres to evaluate their nutritional status.
Every school reported that the kids were healthier and physically stronger since they had been receiving the JAM porridge. They have much more energy and their ability to concentrate during lessons has significantly increased.
We saw smiles all-round and the kids were happy, playful and having fun. When they sang us songs and recited rhymes, we could see that their memory had improved since we last saw them at the end of 2013. Back then they performed with much less enthusiasm and energy.
It was great to see such an amazing change after only six weeks of them receiving the correct nutrients. Not only is the meal they receive nutritious, they really enjoy the taste of the porridge and stand in line for seconds; some even scrape the last bits with their hands from the side of the bucket in which it is prepared.
The next 3-month supply of porridge was delivered to the 51 crèches in the 3rd week of April. We are really excited to see more growth and development in the coming months and we are extremely grateful that God has led us to team up with JAM to make a difference in these children’s lives.
